Whether you are retired, a small business owner, a CEO or a stay at home mother or father, you can take your cue from these questions:
Q:My portfolio has increased enormously over the past three years. I have looked at the percentage I hold in each sector and my portfolio is currently 45% in Sasol, Anglo American, Billiton and Impala Plats – I have only got 3% in banks. Do you think I should be selling some of my resources and mining and buying some banks OR just reducing my resources and holding cash?
Q:I have had a superb run in the market – I have been offered a product by a leading bank. I can protect my portfolio from any downturn in the market for three years but the upside is capped. The quote they have given me for 36 is 63%. Do you think now is the time to protect my portfolio? If the market continues what are the chances of the market growing by 63% in the next three years?
Q:Each of my family members have taken out R2 million offshore. We have approximately £550,000! I am looking for growth and do you think now is the time to go into global markets? Should I go through a managed portfolio with a stockbroker or into a unit trust?
Q: The South African market is a on a price earnings of between 15-16. UK and US are not much more expensive. Can the South African market continue to grow at this high level of price earnings?
Q: How important to our market is foreign funds that have been coming in?
Q:Please explain why preference shares are performing so poorly and should I hold on to the preference shares or get out now?
